(Sandra Kate) Ellington, all of Soperton daughter, Elizabeth “Beth” (Tim) Taylor of Vidalia granddaughter, Anne-Claire Taylor of Vidalia two sisters, Sylvia (W.C.) Rowland of Newnan and Cynthia Greene of Roswell.Ī Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Third Street, Soperton, GA, at 3:00 PM. Ellington, Sr., her parents – John Thomas and Bessie Brown Davis, and seven siblings preceded her in death. Ellington always had a song in her heart, projected a vibrant smile, and brought joy wherever she went. She volunteered for many years at Treutlen Primary School teaching reading to second grade students. In 1997, she was recognized as the “Soperton-Treutlen County Citizen of the Year” for her years of leadership and service to many local civic organizations including the Soperton Garden Club, Soperton Bloodmobile, Treutlen County Retired Teachers Association, Treutlen Library Book Club, Vidalia DAR Chapter, Meadows Memorial Pink Ladies Auxiliary, Treutlen County Business and Professional Women’s Club, and the Million Pines Arts and Crafts Festival Committee. She also played the piano at churches throughout Treutlen County during revivals as well as for weekly activities for residents of the Treutlen County Nursing Home and Living Center. Ellington shared her love of music as a Children’s Choir Director for many years and played the organ at First Baptist Church until she was 91 years of age. ![]() She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Soperton for more than fifty years, was a member of the Helen Perry Sunday School Class, and served in many capacities in the life of the church. Ellington had been a resident of Soperton since 1969 and was a retired Customer Service Representative for Georgia Power. She was a graduate of Wrightsville High School, attended Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern University) and received her Associate of Arts degree from Brewton Parker College. ![]() Ellington was born in Wrightsville, GA on March 20, 1929. Nan Davis Ellington, 93, of Soperton passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 8, 2023.
